• A heterofermentative lactic acid bacterium that initiates fermentation in silage and vegetable/dairy substrates, rapidly generating lactic acid, acetic acid, and carbon dioxide from available sugars
• Produces exopolysaccharides such as dextran, shown to have prebiotic, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties, including inhibition of Listeria monocytogenes biofilm formation
• Plays a pioneering role in natural fermentation succession, lowering pH early on and creating favorable conditions for the lactic acid bacteria that complete fermentation
• Contributes bacteriocin-like antibacterial substances active against certain foodborne and spoilage pathogens
• Widely used as a starter culture in vegetable, dairy, and forage/silage fermentation, contributing to flavor and preservation
• Supports rapid pH decline in the early stages of ensiling, helping suppress clostridia and enterobacteria activity during the initial silage phase

Recommended Dosage

Recommended minimum inclusion: 0.1–2×10⁸ CFU per kg body weight, adjusted by target species. For feed inclusion, calculate from body weight and target intake. For silage inoculation, the recommended application rate is 10⁴ CFU/g.
