Bacillus & Spore-Forming Bacteria
Mechanism of Action & Benefits
- Used internationally primarily as a biological insecticide: produces parasporal crystal (Cry) delta-endotoxin proteins during sporulation that, once activated by midgut proteases in susceptible larvae, form pores in the midgut epithelium
- Forms heat- and desiccation-tolerant spores with the general stress resistance common to Bacillus species, withstanding feed production and storage
- Belongs to the Bacillus cereus group; a limited body of experimental research has explored its use as a gut/feed additive, but compared with established feed probiotics such as B. subtilis, B. licheniformis, and B. coagulans, peer-reviewed evidence for effects on livestock and poultry growth performance or gut health remains relatively limited
- We include this strain in our raw material line primarily to support agricultural biocontrol/biopesticide applications and specialized formulation development, rather than as a general-purpose gut health probiotic
- Biopesticide-grade and feed-grade applications differ significantly in regulatory status and intended use; the specific application should be confirmed and scoped before formulation
Recommended Dosage
Recommended minimum inclusion: 0.1–2×10⁸ CFU per kg body weight, adjusted by target species. For feed inclusion, calculate from body weight and target intake.
